- I love adding blueberries to my morning smoothie as they are packed with antioxidants and contribute to brain health. There is evidence that they are great at improving memory and cognitive function too. I prefer using frozen blueberries for convenience and to avoid the pressure of having to eat fresh blueberries from the fridge before they spoil. The added bonus of mixing in frozen berries is that it cools the final mixture.
- Beetroot is a healthy and robust addition offering volume as well as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that aid in healthy blood pressure.
- Get a good helping of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre and protein with the addition of chia and hemp seeds. They give you a fresh boost in energy levels, promote fullness, and aid in digestion.
- Puffed quinoa adds a delightful crunch and extra protein and fibre.
- Walnuts check off the healthy fat box whilst also providing antioxidants and minerals. Walnuts are great for heart and brain health.
- Oat milk adds a creamy dairy-free taste and is rich in calcium, vitamin D, and fibre. Feel free to switch it out for any other plant-based milk of your choice.
- Get natural sweetness from the date syrup as well as a warming spice from the cinnamon, which can help regulate blood sugar levels too.

Red Delight Smoothie
Equipment
- 1 Blender or food processor
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- Handful of blueberries
- 1 small beetroot or half a normal size one
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp hemp seeds
- 1 tsp puffed quinoa
- Handful of walnuts
- Oat milk
- Date syrup
- Cinnamon
Instructions
- Peel the banana and break it into smaller chunks.
- Rinse the blueberries under running water and add them to a blender.
- Peel the small beetroot and cut it into smaller pieces. Add it to the blender as well.
- Measure and add 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, hemp seeds, and puffed quinoa to the blender.
- Add a handful of walnuts to the other ingredients in the blender.
- Pour in enough oat milk to cover the ingredients in the blender.
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon of date syrup into the mixture.
- Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top.
- Secure the blender lid and blend until all the ingredients are smooth and well combined.
- Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness by adding more date syrup if desired.
